The role of the music in cultural exchanges
There has yet to be a culture discovered which lacks music. It is a part of our existence, but we do not fully understand it. Music is a powerful means of communication. It has an amazing ability to convey a range of information about ourselves, from emotions, intentions, meanings and aspirations, to cultural identity even when their spoken languages may be mutually incomprehensible. Music is unique. It can tell stories. It can be a joy and a comfort. Music can exert powerful physical effects, can produce deep and profound emotions within us.

Elliott Golub, founder of Trio Chicago & Friends, an American music group known for its international tours which focus on cultural exchanges, says music can foster deeper communication among people without them understanding much of the other's language. He said: "It is the easiest way to communicate with people. We go to the countries where we do not know a word of their language, and they do not know a word of English. But when we play the music, the music can go from your heart to someone else's heart. They feel something that they actually recognize. You cannot put words there because they do not know what the words are, but they can feel. From that point you make the connection with another person."

Musical instrument is one the way to communicate to other people without using words, they send their message to someone by the sound. For example in New Year celebration, people play musical instrument to create the happiness and excitement situation. So, public will notice the event. But it is a different situation when people play musical instrument during the burial ceremony. Public will get the message that it is a sad situation. Musical instrument may replace the function of the word to sending message. It is clarify that musical instrument is not just an instrument but also as a medium to create non-verbal communication between cultures. They connect the different community to become close and co-operate to each other.

Music has been a very important phenomenon for human beings since prehistoric times. In most of the countries around the world, music has always had an extremely important role as a means of communication since it conveys the listener moods, emotions, thoughts, impressions, or philosophical or political concepts or positions. In traditional China, most well–educated people and monks could play classical music as a means of self-cultivation, meditation, soul purification and spiritual elevation, union with nature, identification with the values of past sages, and communication with friends and lovers.

There are plenty of impressional stories about music in ancient Chinese. A prime example of communicating through music is such as Zhuge Liang negotiate The Battle of Red Cliffs by making pluck the strings of a 16-chord zither. The Battle of Red Cliffs (208–209 AD) is the events at the end of the Han Dynasty in prior to the Three Kingdoms period in ancient China. The imperial army led by the chancellor Cao Cao embarks on a campaign to eliminate the southern warlords Sun Quan and Liu Bei in the name of eradicating rebels. Liu Bei's advisor is Zhuge Liang who embarks on a diplomatic mission to form an alliance between his lord and Sun Quan to deal with Cao Cao's invasion. And the first thing he performs is to negotiate with a special person. He is Zhou Yu - a military general and strategist serving under the warlord Sun Quan. Their negotiation was perform in music, both Zhuge Liang's suggest and Zhou Yu's responses were showed through what they played instrument. They could understand each other without using words by through the tone of the musical note. Zhuge Liang drank tea, played 16-chord zither and came back home happily  with a expected answer from Zhou Yu. Suddenly music became a special mean of communication, it created the erudite and profound Chinese culture. Clearly, from many of the historical examples, music has a vital role to human interaction for those whose special needs make other means of communication difficult.

Conclusion, music has always functioned as a means of communication: it is a very powerful tool used to transmit people’s deepest feelings, thoughts or ideas but at the same time it also express strongly the national cultural identity
