In order to run an effective business/organization you must be able to communicate effectively. Communicate effectively in terms of being diverse and looking at it from an ethical stand point. Who would of thought while trying to be diverse and communicate with people from around the world would be challenging. There are opportunities and challenges when it comes to intercultural communication. How do we define cultural. Can stereotypes be avoided; if so what are the steps that can be taken. Ron Glover IBM's vice president of global workforce stated "to operate successfully, you must especially mindful of how we respect and value differences among people in countries and regions".

Understand the opportunities and challenges of communication that will forth come somewhere down the line as you continue to work and expand your networking. When messages are sent/received between two or more people with different cultural backgrounds can lead to verbal and non-verbal signs to be misinterpret. The advantages for having such a diverse workforce leads to a broader range of ideas as well as views. A better understanding of markets and wide range of talent to recruit. The challenges that you have when it comes to intercultural communication is that everyone is from different back grounds; the way you communicate your words and gestures has a significant meaning to you, but may be interpret differently by someone from another culture. Culture plays a part and in many cases influences everything pertaining to communication, such as nonverbal signs, language and word meaning.

Your considered an expert with culture Because you know your culture well. You know how your culture works, common gestures and how people expect you to communicate. You grow to prioritize what is most important to you in life, what's right and wrong. You gained all this through your culture, culture In terms of everyone has the same values, beliefs, expectations, symbols. You can learn culture directly or indirectly from other members of your group. Culture continues to be passed on from one another and from generation to generation. Usually when someone feels they are complete due to their culture may be difficult for them to communicate with others outside their culture. When your not part of a culture people tend to judge looking from the outside in. That's when ethnocentrism comes into play; people are not aware that they are being ethnocentrism. Quick to judge another culture/group according to their standards and the way they behave. Ways to overcome this obstacle is being cultural pluralism. Willing to accept those from others cultures on your own terms. You can practice cultural pluralism by avoiding assumptions, avoiding judgements, acknowledging distinctions. Avoiding these and move beyond simple acceptance and try to adapt your communication style.

Non verbal mishaps when it comes to a grip, eye contact hand Gestures and a smile. Cultures outside of the united states a hand grip would be considered to be aggressive.also eye contact is considered aggressive. A thumbs up in the U.S I'd considered to mean good job , well out side the U.S it means one. Be mindful when it comes to communicating with someone outside your culture.
